A Typical Day…

During their first week at Playgroup each child will make their own name tag to label their belongings in the cloakroom. Coats and outdoor shoes should be left in the cloakroom before the child comes into the playroom. Our children arrive at 9.30 a.m. and participate in free play. This is when they choose what they would like to play with from a variety of activities. This helps the child to become more independent, develop their own interests and socialise with others.

The facilities at Braidholm Playgroup include a large playroom that provides ample space for a wide range of activities including water and sand play, painting, modelling paste, dressing up clothes, house corner, etc. There is also a library corner where children can look at books on their own and as a group at story time.

At 10.15-10.30 a.m. we have a group snack where the children sit down together round a table. While snack is being cleared away the children enjoy a period of free play. The latter part of our day is spent clearing the toys away in readiness for playing games, singing and physical activities. Tidy up time has been made into a game and all the children are encouraged to participate. Our Play Leaders plan a curriculum for the sessions around a variety of themes. Examples of themes that have been used include The Seasons, Chinese New Year, Easter, Shapes, Colours etc.

On your child’s first day at Playgroup we ask that a parent stays with the child for the full duration of the session. This is to help the child settle into the new environment of Playgroup and to give the parent an opportunity to see how Playgroup is organised and get to know the Play Leaders. Parents are more than welcome to see their child in the Playgroup, enjoying and experiencing the many activities they will get involved in.

The Play Leaders are available to speak to during the morning session about any questions or concerns they may have. In addition, the Playgroup Manager, provides drop in sessions for parents wanting to discuss any matters in more detail. Parents wishing to spend time with their child in the playroom are always made very welcome.
